⭐️NATIONAL OT MONTH⭐️
Meet Kim, our Lead Occupational Therapist and Clinic Manager at our St. B clinic.
What keeps you motivated in challenging situations?
- Knowing that if I can connect with the family and the child with consistency and time, I can help them see the value in the processes and achieve their goals.
What’s your favorite OT hack?
- Using a two colored sash to teach shoe tying. We practice learning to tie around their leg or waist. And we practice “backward”. I help them with all the steps and then focus on them becoming independent with the last step, last two, last three, etc. Once a kiddo is good at this it’s so much easier to transfer the skill to shoes.
What’s your “this is SO OT moment?
- When I’m collaborating with a family and patient to create goals and they have goals like “wanting to take family trips to the zoo” or “make my own friendship bracelets” or “make pancakes by myself”. That’s the beauty of participating in real life daily activities and that’s SO OT!!!!
If your job had a warning label what would it say?
- ⚠️ Connection before compliance may look like we’re “just playing” but it’s so much more than that and it’s the most important part of building toward success in ALL things.
